Welcome to First United Methodist Church of DeRidder! For over 100 years, we have been "Central to DeRidder, Centered in Christ." We take seriously our mission to Grow and Serve in Christ to Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.

Sunday School Classes - 9:00 AM

All of our Sunday School classes meet in our Fellowship Hall complex at the corner of Port & Pine Streets, on the north side of our campus. We have classes for all ages, as well as a nursery for our friends 0-4 years in age.

Worship Service - 10:00 AM

When you come to join us for Worship Sundays at 10:00 AM, you will be greeted at the door by someone from our hospitality team, and offered any assistance you may require. It is our hope and prayer that, through worship and fellowship, you will encounter the risen Lord. It is our firm belief that worship as the gathered community of faith is the starting point of all ministry--personal and communal. Also, those who attend worship at FUMC run the gamut from very casual to very formal attire. We care much more about who you are than what you wear; please don't let concerns about attire keep you from coming to worship with us.

Our commitment to you as the church is you will encounter in worship the intentional facilitation of the worship of Christ at all times during the service--as our various music ministries set the tone right before worship, through the words of welcome and greeting, the singing of our praises to God (in whatever form for which the service calls), in the reading and proclamation of the Gospel message, the return of God's tithes and our offerings, individual and corporate prayer, and so much more. Our philosophy about worship is that worship is designed for God, not for humanity, and we stress that worship is not a spectator sport.

Children’s Church - During Worship Service

Our children traditionally begin worship with us in the sanctuary. Approximately 20 minutes into the service, children ages four to junior high are welcome to join together for Children’s Church where they will have a lesson and craft that compliments the sermon for each Sunday. Children are always welcome to attend worship service and are not required to attend Children’s Church or the Nursery.

Nursery - 8:45AM - 11:15AM

Nursery is available for those under the age of four.

Sacraments

We observe two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. Baptism is a gift of God, and following the New Testament example of entire households being baptized, we place no restrictions with respect to age or intellectual capability. If you would like to inquire about the sacrament of Baptism for yourself or someone else, please contact our church office. Holy Communion is offered during the worship serivce on the first Sunday of the month, along with other holidays and special services. We also offer communion every other Sunday after the service, for those wishing to partake. We provide the sacraments for those who are homebound or otherwise unable to attend service on an as-needed basis, and we invite you to contact us for more information.
